Agree. I just pop out to vi when I need to do editing tasks that are
hard in the text box.

Agree here, as well. However, I'm not certain that the benefit would be
significant, and there might be issues that naive new users would trip
over, which would be a negative (and is also a negative for the fancy
javascript, IMO...consider that pasting code snippets is an important
part of updating tracker issues).
